Islamic Relief (IR) began working in Ethiopia in 2000, responding to the severe droughts in 2000, 2001 and
2002. An office was officially opened in January 2004.

In addition to emergency relief, IR is also implementing long-term development projects. These projects
include education, health, water and sanitation, livelihoods and food security.
